Two house brochures from two different periods

This page presents two surviving Goldener Ochsen house brochures. In the current house chronology, the older brochure is attributed approximately to 1982–1984 and the later brochure approximately to 1999–2001. None of the brochure pages shown here carries an unambiguous printed year.

These periods are therefore house-internal historical attributions, not publication years proven by the brochures themselves. What can be read directly from the brochures, however, is much more precise: historical business descriptions, postal codes, room and bed information, restaurant capacities, butchery details, telephone numbers, a former fax number and references to the garden terrace.

Older house brochure – house-internal dating about 1982–1984

Information securely readable from the older brochure

Business description
“Gasthaus-Metzgerei Zum goldenen Ochsen”
Owner wording
“Familie Hermann Mayer”
Address
7320 Göppingen-Hohenstaufen, using the former four-digit German postal code
Telephone
(07165) 8062
Accommodation
17 beds; hot and cold running water; shower/WC
Restaurant capacities
Rooms for 24, 50 and 60 people, together 130 seats
Other wording
References to parties, family celebrations, excursion groups and coach parties
Weekly closing day
Monday

The former four-digit postal code 7320 is an independent chronological clue: this brochure belongs to the period before the introduction of Germany’s five-digit postal codes in 1993. That makes the house-internal attribution to the early 1980s plausible, although the brochure alone does not prove the precise years 1982–1984.

Later house brochure – house-internal dating about 1999–2001

Information securely readable from the later brochure

Business description
“Hotel · Gasthof · Metzgerei ‘Goldener Ochsen’”
Owner wording
“Familie Hermann Mayer”
Address
Ailstraße 1 · 73037 Göppingen-Hohenstaufen
Telephone
(07165) 8062
Former fax
(07165) 1728
Butchery
The brochure advertises a butcher’s shop with in-house slaughtering
Restaurant capacities
Rooms for 24, 50 and 60 people, together 130 seats
Hotel rooms
Shower, WC and television in the room
Room rules
Pets and smoking were expressly not permitted in the hotel rooms advertised at the time
Garden terrace
90 seats
Coach parties
Telephone advance notice requested on 07165/8062
Restaurant wording
“Restaurant am Montag Ruhetag” – restaurant closed on Mondays

The five-digit postal code 73037 proves that this brochure dates from after the 1993 German postal-code reform. It therefore supports attribution to a clearly later period, but it does not by itself prove the years 1999–2001.

What changed between the two brochures

Older brochure

The public description uses the term “Gasthaus-Metzgerei”. Particularly concrete are the 17 beds, hot and cold water, shower/WC and the stated capacities of the restaurant rooms. Telephone number 8062 was already in use.

Later brochure

The title page now uses the wording “Hotel · Gasthof · Metzgerei”. It also includes a small route map, a fax number and more modern room advertising with shower, WC and television. Smoking and pet rules, the garden terrace and in-house slaughtering are also stated explicitly.

The comparison therefore shows more than two different designs. It documents which parts of the business were emphasised publicly at different times. Some details remain strikingly stable – especially telephone number 8062 and the restaurant capacities – while the language, technical equipment and style of guest information change noticeably.

Telephone, restaurant and fax numbers through the years

Telephone number 07165 8062 belongs to a longer surviving number history of the house. The local number 2 is documented for the “Ochsen” from 1894; from a later period, the number 262 is documented. This is followed by 8062, which remains the hotel’s main telephone number today. The evidence for no. 2 from 1894 documents early telephone accessibility, but it does not establish the exact installation date of the connection.

At various times, the property also had several separate telephone connections. These included the former separate restaurant number 07165/1023 and the fax number 07165/1728. During later technical changes, the various connections could not simply be merged into one single number.

The former restaurant number 1023 and fax number 1728 no longer exist. A separate restaurant number, 07165 9295708, was used later, while the hotel’s main number 07165 8062 remained separate.

Because the house had three or four separate connections during parts of its history, individual telephone numbers are not sufficient on their own to prove a particular brochure year. They are useful historical clues, but they must be considered together with postal codes, design, equipment and the house records.

What securely supports the dating

Brochure 1
The current house-internal attribution to about 1982–1984 remains in place. The document itself securely shows only that the four-digit postal code 7320 belongs to the period before Germany’s five-digit postal codes were introduced in 1993.
Brochure 2
The current house-internal attribution to about 1999–2001 likewise remains in place. The securely visible five-digit postal code 73037 proves a date after the 1993 postal-code reform. Telephone, fax and restaurant numbers provide additional clues but do not permit an exact year to be established, especially because several separate telephone connections existed in the house.

Historical brochure information is not current service information

This page documents earlier operating conditions. Information in the brochures – for example 17 beds, television in the room, 130 restaurant seats, 90 terrace seats, a butcher’s shop with in-house slaughtering, Monday closing or the former fax number – therefore does not describe the present-day operation unless it is expressly identified as current information.

Today, Hotel Goldener Ochsen operates 8 guest rooms. Room enquiries, reservations and arrival arrangements are handled exclusively by telephone and in German; e-mail is intended for general enquiries only and payment is cash only. Current hotel information is provided on the present hotel and rooms page. Current information about the restaurant is published above on this page and may change according to availability and staffing.

Note on the image display

The enlarged image view is provided solely to make the surviving brochure pages easier to examine. Historical business descriptions, telephone numbers and service information are intentionally reproduced in their original context. Where a date is not directly established by the document, this is stated explicitly on the page.
