History of the house

Goldener Ochsen looks back on more than 241 years of history.

The property was already documented in 1785, making it one of the oldest businesses in the Goeppingen district. The house has been owned by our family for generations, and we maintain this tradition with care.

Early on, the "Ochsen" served as an important inn for travellers and coachmen who stopped here on their way through the Stauferland region.

A place with a long history – and probably older roots than the first surviving document suggests.

This assumption is supported by the location of our house: an important historic trade route once passed directly by the building. Even today, the historic path up to the Hohenstaufen castle ruins starts here.

The historical importance of the Ochsen as a stopping place in Hohenstaufen is also reflected in literature:

Wilhelm Raabe mentioned the house in 1873 in his novel "Christoph Pechlin" – a sign of the special role that the Ochsen plays in the history of Hohenstaufen.

A piece of technical history: Goldener Ochsen in Goeppingen-Hohenstaufen was also among the early telephone connections in the region.

At that time, our telephone number was simply "2". Later it became "262" – and today you can reach us at the familiar ending 8062.
